Boston Scientific Biliary

Boston Scientific - R&D Engineering Co-op - Biliary Department

January 2021 - June 2021

Duties -

  • Worked on a team at Boston Scientific that was in the biliary department by using exploratory techniques to research PTFE catheters and their tip forming assembly

  • Used RF thermoforming to mold ideal tip shape using previously made catheters to view final comparison to original forms

  • Created test methods using cantilever beam mechanics to analyze ultimate strength and stiffness of extrusions prior to and after a design change to a device

  • Was introduced to various mechanical systems and optical measurement equipment throughout my co-op including Keyence, P4K and MTS devices

Challenges and Skills Gained -

  • Exploratory was a new field to me and was difficult to adapt to immediately especially in a co-op setting

  • Became involved and learned the mindset needed to explore into new areas that were under-researched

  • Required finding ways to evaluate the progress I was making during my exploratory periods which was new to me over my co-op experiences

  • Skills Gained - Exploratory Work, Optical Equipment, RF Tipping
